NMMA Certification

THE IMPORTANCE OF NMMA CERTIFICATION

As a manufacturer, the decision to certify your houseboats is an important step toward providing consumers with quality, safety and reliability. For consumers, purchasing or renting an NMMA Certified houseboat is the first step in establishing peace of mind and ensuring passenger safety.

NMMA Certified Houseboats are inspected and certified using standards established by the American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) that focus on critical systems onboard including: LPG systems, AC and DC electrical, battery installation, CO detectors, exhaust systems, navigation lights, permanent fuel systems, powering, steering systems, ventilation and visibility from the helm. Adherence to these standards means an overall better and safer houseboat.

NMMA is active in educating the public about the importance of NMMA Certification through PR, literature, the web, advertising, and industry events. Those shopping for a houseboat should look for the NMMA Certified logo on the yacht plate located near the helm. Currently, more than 90% of boat manufacturers in the U.S. are NMMA Certified with many others in the process.
